About PBworks.com

Meet the PBworks Team!

Jim Groff

CEO

Jim Groff is an accomplished startup CEO who has over 25 years of experience successfully guiding companies to a position of market leadership.  Prior to joining PBworks, Jim was an SVP at Oracle, which he joined as a result of its acquisition of TimesTen, where Jim was CEO.  Prior to TimesTen, Jim held executive positions (including head of its educational business) at Apple Computer, which had acquired Network Innovations Corporation, a company he founded.  Jim has a B.S. in Mathematics from MIT, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.  He is also the author of several best-selling technical books, including Understanding Unix: a Conceptual Guide, and Using SQL.

David Weekly

Founder & Chairman

David has been programming since he was five and has coded for MIT, Harvard, Stanford, There.com, atWeb, and Legato. David wrote the first layman's description of MP3 in early 1997 and graduated in 2000 with a BS in Computer Science from Stanford, where he was a President Scholar and a finalist in the ACM International Programming Competition. David started the company that became PBworks in 2003. He likes to throw hacker parties, fly helicopters, ride his motorcycle, and make useful things.

Nathan Schmidt

Co-founder & CTO

Nathan joined PBworks following five years in development and engineering Telephia, the leader in wireless telephony market research and network performance benchmarking. Prior to Telephia Nathan was a co-founder of Scout Electromedia, which shipped the Modo, a pioneering wireless city-guide and marketing platform. A President Scholar, he received a BS in Computer Systems Engineering at Stanford University.

Emily Marcroft

Program Manager & Controller

Emily handles HR, finance, some customer support, and anything else that might come up (as it inevitably does). Emily is a graduate of UC/Berkeley. Prior to joining the PBworks team, Emily spent nearly 4 years at Reflectivity, Inc in multi-faceted admin and operational support positions, helping to sustain a brilliant group of semiconductor engineers, technicians, and their managers until the company was sold and the team disbanded in June of 2006. Despite lacking a university-level background in science and technology, Emily should be considered an indisputable citizen of Geek Nation.

Brian Klug

Director of Engineering

Brian joined PBworks in November 2006 after co-founding an online community called MindSay in 2003. With over 12 years of software development and industry experience, he enabled the birth of a competitive blogging product with hundreds of thousands of users. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.

Jim Blomo

Systems Software Engineer

Growing up in the rough neighborhood of IRC's #crackz, Jim escaped the shadowy life of "reverse engineering" to become classically trained at UC Berkeley's EECS program. There he participated in all things nerdy: playing the Cal Marching Band, being a Regents' and Chancellor's Scholar, and moving through the ranks of Residential Computing. After graduating, he entered the wild world of ops at A9.com, running Amazon.com's product search.

Mike Bulajewski

Senior UI Engineer

Mike couldn't decide if he wanted to create intuitive and beautiful designs, or write web applications that work, so he he came to PBworks to do both. Mike brings skills in visual design, a love for intuitive interfaces, and the technical skills to bring them to life. He has worked as a freelance graphic designer, a performance engineer for Amdocs and a UI designer for Dun & Bradstreet, and holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Cal State Sacramento.

Kristine Molnar

Community Evangelist

Kristine received her first Mac at the age of seven and has been attempting to break into the ranks of geekdom ever since. With her nerdy impulses set aside, she set her sights on a career in philanthropy. Kristine earned an MA in International Political Economy and Development and worked as Executive Director for the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation. Leaving New York for the Bay Area, Kristine decided to test her geek cred and seize her chance to work at a start up.  Check out her PBworks Twitter here.

He has been a founder, founding employee, or seed investor in almost a dozen startups, including PBworks, and advises a wide array of startups ranging from network equipment makers to vertical search engines. Mark Christian

Software Engineer

A recent import from Canada, Mark has been glued to a computer screen since the dark days of MS-DOS. Now that he's in the Bay Area, he's soaking up geek culture and trying to change the world with PBworks. Mark believes in the potential of collaborative media and is excited to be helping to build Something That Matters. He has a B.S in Computer Science from Dalhousie University in Halifax.

In her spare time Lynn enjoys LOLcatting, practicing the art of bowyery, and writing fake biographies.

Brian Kirchoff

BK2 is known to whip up incredible amounts of code without breaking a sweat.  Wonder why your workspace is now lightning fast?  He's the likely culprit.  Watch as he impresses the ladies with his crazy engineering skilz.

Ian Danforth

After graduating with a degree in Psychology from Whitman College, where he ran a cadre of technical support staff, he worked briefly at Google and did osteoporosis research at Stanford as well as a small clinic in Laurel, Maryland. Angie Smith

Tier I Support Guru

Angie is our wannabe MacGyver - bring her a problem with your application, implementation, or a simple case of international intrigue and she transforms from supermom of five into Ms. Fixit. Her gracious southern charm, subtle humor, and ability to resolve customer issues typify the phrase "solution provider". Angie took an 8 year break from the workforce, where she spent the chunk of her 20's supervising employees at Long Term Care and Alzheimer's Facilities. While she happily embraces her nerdy quirks, she considers herself a run of the mill, guitar picking, southern girl.  She is a paranoid safety freak and believes whole heartedly in seat belts and hand sanitizer. When she isn't answering support questions for PBworks, she homeschools her youngsters, spends time with her husband, plans her days 6 months in advance and makes lists to remind her to do so, and she still finds time to make homemade pasta. She loves a good competition and talking smack.

John-Peter Etcheber

Tier II Support Guru

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, J-P currently lives in Concord, CA. He went to UC Irvine (Go Anteaters!) for college and got a BA in English, then worked for about 2.5 years at a media monitoring company (Cision), editing video clips and creating clip reels for corporate clients.  After that, he worked for a small software startup in Oakland called FlashFoto Inc. He helped with setting up test image databases for them as they were developing their computer vision software that tries to cut people out of pictures. He joined PBworks in October 2008. He's really interested in scripting environments like Python, CSS, PHP, and Javascript.

Andrew Shell

Andrew's favorite word is Hoopla!

Tom Collier

Web Analytics Manager

Tom has been measuring PBworks's impact since October 2008.  He has a penchant for breathing life into the numbers and statistics that reveal how well we're doing.  Besides toying around with SQL and Excel, Tom enjoys challenging his coworkers to fierce chess matches--he currently enjoys a 50% win rate (M.O.E. +/- 50%).  Outside of work, Tom likes to run marathons and experiment in the kitchen.

Ryan Park

Front-End Engineer

Ryan hails from Bettendorf, Iowa–not quite as small as it sounds. Ryan has spent much of his life in academia: as a student, a TA, and a software developer for colleges and universities. Ryan most recently worked for Amazon.com in their Retail Customer Experience division. Ryan has a bachelor's degree from The George Washington University, and a master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Stanford University.
