pbwiki-2-user-guide

Your workspace has been updated to PBworks 2.0

Here is what has changed:

  • New editor. We’ve improved the editor to be more responsive and have fixed a number of bugs (Our favorite: Bullet-pointing is now much, much easier.) -- and it works in Safari!
  • New look. The page interface is streamlined to help get your work done better.  We've designed 2.0 with the help of thousands of PBworks users.  We also make it easy to add your logo and customize the look of your workspace.
  • Page-level access. If you’ve ever wanted to allow certain people access to specific pages on your workspace, now you’ll be able to.
  • Folders and folder-level access. This new feature will allow you to put pages in folders to better organize your workspace, and control access. A godsend for large workspaces!
  • Improved logins. A few months ago, we noted how logins on PBworks are more confusing than they need to be. In the new release, we’ll be improving logins and making it easier to track who’s doing what — and to make sharing easier.
  • Classroom Accounts- Automatically create accounts for students who don't have email addresses
  • Document Management - Easily share documents and track revisions, put files in folders and manage them in bulk.

Having Trouble?

I'm an admin, how do I restore access to my users? To restore access to your users, you must finish the update. You can find the link to do this on your login page.

I'm not an admin, and I don't have access to our private workspace.  If the workspace was automatically updated on March 9th, all your data is safe. You will not have access until the administrator completes the update process and restores your access.  You will then receive an invite to create a PBworks Account.

I'm not an admin and I don't have access to edit our private workspace. If the workspace was automatically updated on March 9th, all your data is safe.  You will not have access to edit the workspace until the administrator completes the update process and restores your access.  You will then receive an invite to create a PBworks Account.

Why do I have to create a PBworks Account? For security purposes all 2.0 users must have an individual login and password (a PBworks Account).

How can I create a PBworks Account? Register for a PBworks Account at https://my.pbworks.com -or- when the workspace is updated, the workspace creator or one of the workspace administrators will transition all users.  Your will receive an email invited you to create a PBworks Account. Follow the link to create an account. Once you create an account you will immediatly gain access to the workspace.

My students don't have email, how can they have a PBworks Account?  If your students don't have email, we created a brand new feature that allows you to automatically generate a username and password for your students.  No email needed!

What happened to my Custom CSS? We've added the ability to insert arbitrary code to the header of your workspace.  This is useful for inserting things like Google Analytics or custom CSS.  However, this differs from how we used to implement custom CSS. Note that PBworks 1.0 users with custom CSS won't be able to transition their custom designs to PBworks 2.0.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

What about the specially designed text on my workspace pages? Because of technical changes, PBworks 2.0 may introduce small spacing/font changes to your page when you transition your workspace from 1.0 to 2.0. These will be minor, but we wanted to let you know of these ahead of time. We don't expect this to happen again at any time in the future.

Where is the Classic mode editor? Classic mode does not exist in PBworks 2.0, instead we have an improved point and click editor - that works in even more browsers.

How do notifications work on PBworks 2.0? "If I restrict someone from accessing a page, will they still get notified about changes to the page?" No, they won't. Notifications will reflect your security settings, so if someone doesn't have access to a page, they will not be notified about changes to it.
